Land protection in Brandenburg | |
Large nature reserves in Brandenburg where Euronatur has taken over protected areas.
|
In the last couple of years 65000 ha of forest area inside nature reserves have been transferred to nature protection organisations free of charge. In return, these organisations commit to a long-term conservation of such areas, according to the established nature protection criteria, bearing all costs arising from the property and its administration.
Up to 1000 ha of such land, mainly situated in the natural parks of "Märkische Schweiz", "Dahme-Heideseen" and "Schlaubetal" east to southeast of Berlin, are earmarked for being transferred to Euronatur. An initial area of 115 ha had already been transferred to Euronatur on July 1, 2003 and a second portion of around 611 ha on Dec 10, 2004.
In the meantime, a land parcel databank has been established and talks about the future development of these areas have been held with nature reserve administrations, local nature protection groups and users.
