European Stork Village 1997 - Andrid (Romania)
The village of Andrid with approximately 2,700 inhabitants is situated in the Pannonian basin in north-west Romania. The parish is home to the largest remaining old wet meadows, with a couple of hundred hectares preserved, making this region one of the best stork populations in Romania. Since 1994, after the parish took a range of nature conservation measures, such as the rewilding of former wetlands and the designation of protected areas, the stork population has been increasing.
