Webinar on Europe’s primeval and old-growth forests on 30 November 2026 at 6.30 pm (in German)

To mark Giving Tuesday 2026, EuroNatur cordially invites you to a webinar on 30 November 2026 at 6.30 pm CET. The webinar will be held in German.

EuroNatur locates and maps the last remaining unknown primeval and old-growth forests in South-Eastern Europe in order to protect them from deforestation. Siegmund Missall, Head of Programme Forest Conservation with EuroNatur, will take you on a richly illustrated tour to show you this work:

  • What exactly are primeval and old-growth forests?
  • What is it like to roam through these forests?
  • How exactly do we search for and find these forests? An insight into our Western Balkans project ‘Forest Beyond Borders’
  • Why is this so important? What do the forests need to be protected from?
  • Outlook

Register to the webinar (in German)

The webinar will be held in German.

As EuroNatur’s Head of Forest Conservation, Siegmund  has been taking practical action since 2024 to prevent the deforestation of Europe’s last primeval forests . His tasks include networking conservation partners, working with them to locate Europe’s primeval forests, proving that those forests are genuinely primeval and achieving their protection at national and EU level.

Impressions from the Balkan forests

Only a small fraction of Europe's primary and old-growth forests have survived until today, but in the Balkans bigger areas are remaining. These forests are being lost to ongoing logging partly because have never been documented properly. We want to find and map them to make sure that these forests get the protection they deserve.
