Christel Schroeder - President of EuroNatur

On 12th October 2011 Christel Schroeder was elected President of EuroNatur. As a committed nature conservationist she has been involved with the foundation for many years. The first contact was established in 1997 when EuroNatur began to support the work of the Senne Biological Field Station – now the Senne Centre for Nature Conservation.
At that time Christel Schroeder headed the Biological Field Station which she had founded together with other nature conservationists in 1992. Her work here contributed greatly to the success of numerous projects at the field station, among them the “Senne horses in the wild” project and the spread of nomadic sheep farming.
Christel Schroeder has been a Member of the Board of EuroNatur since 2002 and has continued to deepen her involvement in the work of the foundation. She is dedicated heart and soul to the goals of EuroNatur. One of its most outstanding features in her eyes is the fact that in its work for nature EuroNatur never loses sight of people. “Nature conservation can only ever be successful if the local population is involved. Not only so that local people gain a livelihood perspective that harmonises with the interests of the natural world. The establishment of a functioning network of local partners and their training is equally important.”
Christel Schroeder has always been convinced of the rightness of EuroNatur's founding concept. “Nature conservation has to be thought of and carried out across national borders. With initiatives such as the Balkan Green Belt and many other cross-border projects EuroNatur is giving this idea living, breathing form.”
