Female Balkan lynx fitted with tracking device

Female lynx being measured and examined by biologists

Healthy and strong (weighing 15 kg): The 2-3 year-old female lynx is measured and examined by the biologists.

Our partners from MES have fitted a Balkan lynx with a tracking device. The female, named Narcisa, was trapped by the biologists on 12 February before being examined and fitted with a GPS transmitter. Narcisa is only the second female Balkan lynx – a species which is threatened with extinction – ever to be fitted with such a device. She will now be able to provide lynx conservationists at MES with important data on her movement and behavioural patterns – and hopefully also give birth to some offspring soon.

You can find out more about the ways in which EuroNatur and its partners are working to protect the Balkan lynx here.
